DIG BULMER
Dig
is a partner in the Hiking World
program.
A Scot by birth, Dig grew up in South East Asia and New
Zealand. Despite a short career as an inter bank dealer on the money
markets, mountains and climbing played an increasing role in his life.
In 1976 he returned to live in the Scottish Highlands and
for twelve years was with the British Forest Service working in forest
and wildlife management as well as Mountain Rescue. It was a natural
progression for Dig to create the firm in 1989. Dig is a qualified
European Mountain Leader with over twenty five years experience of
climbing and hiking around the world. When not outdoors,
he can
usually be found reading military history
in front of the fire with a dram. |

EUAN BULMER Euan
is Dig's son and he guides several of Hiking World's tours as well as
promoting the Scottish firm. He
was raised in the Scottish Highlands and trained in Scotland as a
lawyer, however having inherited his parents love
of the outdoors he soon decided to forego the pleasures of the
courtroom and get back to the real world. These days Euan has found a
happy balance between his promotional work at home and
leading Hiking World trips to Scotland, New Zealand and
Jordan. He is also a qualified instructor of skiing and scuba diving
as well as an enthusiastic Arabic cook. |

JAMES DAVIDSON
James is one of those modest gentlemen Scotland is
proud to call her son. James brings to our team a broader knowledge
and understanding of the world than can be gained simply through a
life enjoying the outdoors. James pursued a naval career as a
navigator and later was to become Assistant Naval Attaché to Moscow
and Helsinki. James left the navy to run the family farm on the
eastern fringe of the Highlands and was soon the Member of Parliament
for his home constituency. Today, James is happily semi retired with
his wife Janet in Newtonmore where he is active in the community as
the Chairman of the Woodland Trust and President of the Clan Davidson
Association. When free James can be found striding out over the hills
of home, cross country skiing, or luckily for us, playing a key role
with our team by leading groups in Scotland and Jordan. |

PAT HEFFRON
Have you ever wondered what it might be
like to change your life completely - live somewhere else, speak a
different language every day, submerge your self completely in another
culture? Pat did. Following his career in the army Pat
moved with his French wife Christian to Provence - not for a year, but for life. Today, Pat
is a highly experienced and fully qualified European Mountain Leader
who is a valuable addition to the team, however his broadened
experience of life has meant Pat's transition to becoming a true
European. Being a resident of Provence, Pat is our wine expert (Speak
to James about whisky) and when it comes to food Christian and France
have altered his outlook forever - he never seems to crave Scottish
Haggis, or blood pudding now! Naturally, Pat leads our trips in Provence and the Alps but when not on the trail can usually be found
tending his olive trees or relaxing by his pool far from the madding
playground. |

JOHN LYALL
John and Dig met in 1982 when working together in the
Forest Service. They formed a strong climbing partnership and before
long John too joined the Mountain Rescue team. Since those early days
John has gone on to become an outstanding mountaineer with more than
120 first ascents to his credit including Tacarami in the Peruvian
Andes. In 1994 John was selected by B.B.C. Television to play the role
of the mountaineer John McKenzie in the series "The Edge".
It was John's mother Betty who first introduced him to the outdoors and
today, though he is a qualified International Mountain Guide of
considerable repute, he and Betty Lyall are still to be found in quiet
moments out together bird watching in the forests of Scotland and
occasionally Nepal. |

SALEEM SABBAH ATIG ALMOKTAR
Yes, it's quite a name but then
Saleem is quite a fellow. Dig and Saleem first met
many years ago when Dig
strolled into Wadi Rum one afternoon looking for a camel to hire.
Following many sweet teas and too much food Dig found himself the
prisoner of Bedouin hospitality. Before long he was enjoying the quiet
life of a temporary nomad with Saleem's family in the desert. More
than anything else Dig was impressed with the quiet dignity and humor
with which Saleem leads his life. The desert is truly his real home
and it is immediately evident to hikers they are in the presence of a
man who lives for the simple pleasures - the camp fire, good food and
conversation and, it must be said, a real sense of fun. For us it just
would not be Jordan without our good friend Saleem and his
tribe.
IN OCTOBER 2004, HRH THE PRINCE OF WALES
CAME TO EXPLORE WADI RUM AND CHOSE SALEEM'S FAMILY AS HIS BEDOUIN
GUIDES. |

LYNN PARSELLS Lynn was born and raised in
New Jersey, however, today Lynn is a blend of the best of two
worlds. Jersey may always have a place in Lynn's heart, but her home
for the last thirty years has been in Arizona. With a wealth of
magnificent hiking country on her back doorstep and an unfailing
enthusiasm for history, Lynn trained as an archaeologist. Her field
work started in Arizona but took her to New Mexico, Montana,
Swaziland and the Alicante region of Spain. Lynn's batteries always
seem to be charged, and when she is not leading trips, Lynn is
usually to be found cycling the green belt of Scottsdale with one or
more of her three daughters. |

KATE TOYNBEE
Though originally from Edinburgh, Kate has lived in
Strathspey for the last 18 years. For a
long time we have been lucky enough to have Kate as part of the
team. Originally she organized the catering for our photographic
expeditions and Ambassador House Parties to the North Western Highlands.
These days, as Kate’s family has grown up, she has time to share her
warmth and enthusiasm for her native land by leading our guests on
gentle journeys of discovery through her homeland - the Highlands &
Islands of Scotland. |
